Steiner+Associates / Liberty Centea

Project Description

Steiner+Associates are nationally known for their new urbanism approach to place-making and for their successful community-oriented destinations. Their latest project, North Cincinnati’s Liberty Center, is a 64-acre mixed-use development focused on Community Life, Well-Being and Connectivity. As tangible symbols of these values, Steiner commissioned long-time collaborator Sardi Design to plan and design three architecturally integrated media features for Liberty, each supporting a specific community purpose and helping reinforce the sense of place at this new landmark destination.

The custom features were fabricated and installed by  SACO Technologies Inc. Behind the scenes, a facility-wide central control system designed by Smart Monkeys, Inc. provides a flexible, smart infrastructure that supports ongoing operations and paves the way for future development opportunities. Foundation multimedia content was produced by Float4 under Sardi’s creative direction.

LAX International Airport Media Program – Bradley West International Terminal

Project Description

Sardi Design was Creative Director and Media Feature Designer for the $60 Million media program at LAX International’s $1.9 Billion Tom Bradley International Terminal.

Sardi Design developed seven iconic, architecturally scaled media features integrated into the terminal architecture. The program developed by Sardi and MRA International also includes designs for over 70 future intermediate scale media applications to be integrated into architectural surfaces and structures.
The creative team led by Sardi Design as Creative Director, included Smart Monkeys Inc. of Miami as Systems Designer and Technical Consultant; Electrosonic Systems Inc. as Systems Integrator; Moment Factory of Montreal as Executive Content Producer; Digital Kitchen as Brand Content Producer; and Daktronics as the LED manufacturer. Fentress Architects, the designers of the terminal, collaborated on the integration of the media features into the building fabric.

Each of the seven iconic media features was designed with an identity tied to an aspect of the passenger travel experience from the 80 foot “Welcome Wall” which greets passengers as they arrive to LAX, to the 5 story “Time Tower” designed as a re-interpretation of the traditional clock tower and expressive medium of time-as experience. Over 5 hours of programming, consisting of a mix of interactive, generative, narrative and ambient content provides the template for an immersive experience across the various moments of the passenger itinerary, as well as the technical and artistic foundation for future media developers.

The project has received global attention as the most provocative example of a fully integrated, intelligent media environment.

Design and engineering of programmable LED fixtures, the “Marcelli’s,” to allow for video program inputs and network feeds.
Design and engineering of an array of “media sails” along the mile long waterfront. The “sails” were designed for full video programming using a media mesh (GKD mesh with LED tubes); initial installation used LED lighting with option to replace sections of the sails with media mesh.

Location / Client:

Baton Rouge, LA  USA

JTS Interest

Project Description

For this award-winning mixed-use development, Sardi Design developed an Environmental Multimedia System (EMS); an Immersive Theatrical Programming (ITP) overlay to fully transform spaces within the project, particularly the “town square” where patrons at cafes and restaurants are treated to a high tech “son et lumiere” in the evening.
The media program created an array of experiences to support:

The “everyday” experiences of consumers: shopping, entertainment and dining
Draw of visits during key seasonal periods with unique show elements utilizing the full potential of an integrated system (i.e. Winter Holiday Festival mid November to January 15th, Summer Holiday Festival July 1st to July 7th; August: etc.)
Support opportunities for community public relations programming
Support private events (government, corporate events, etc.)
Provide a flexible tool for programming a space
Enhance sponsorship and branding opportunities

Perkins Rowe served as the first large-scale demonstration of how Environmental Multimedia System Design can be used to transform public spaces as immersive experiences for social engagement.
